Severe edema (swelling) in the fetus with 10 being VERY serious. Doc says it’s rated about a 5 in pregnant woman. Patient is 32 yrs old, 3rd child and 27 weeks pregnant. The ultrasound is showing too much fluid in the baby’s abdomen; the intestines appeared to be “floating.” Most common cause of this is a heart defect, which they will be checking in 2 weeks with a specialist. Pulses: Both hands are very similar, with L being slightly stronger than the R. L & R: cuns and guans are floating and thin at middle and deep levels; cun’s and guan’s are slippery wiry (a bit more so at deep then at middle); and both chi’s are very deep and weak, maybe slightly tight, but barely any strength. I’m confused about the sensation I’m feeling with the floating cun/guans, as it feels like both positions are equally pushing up against my fingers (tight or thin?). She has gained 30 lbs already, and seems to be retaining some water herself. At week 22 had 3-5 nose bleeds in one day with a very bad allergy attack followed by a head cold (stayed in sinuses) that lasted for 6 weeks. History of allergies. Bowels are 1-2 a day, formed. Temperature seems normal. Vegetarian. Belly feels on the cool side and pretty squishy/lack of tone despite being quite large. Any weigh ins around treatment at all? Would improving her water metabolism help the baby’s ability? I guess if it’s a heart defect that’s a whole other scenario….it’s obviously a delicate situation and I’m being super cautious. She will be getting another ultrasound in 2 weeks, so we could potentially see if there was any change from treatment until then. The pulse presentation seems close to FJFLT, but would it need to be combined with chuan xiong or some kind of guiding herb to the uterus? Or combine w/ DGS?
