Male, 41 yrs. Pulses all deep, thin, wiry and roll up on both sides. The R guan is slightly bigger. Symptoms: fatigue, full body ache that’s worse in the morning and dull pain of the large joints which becomes unbearable in the fall and winter, and are clearly worse in damp and cold weather. Pain when exerting muscles. Allergies and asthma in the spring and summer. BMs 3 times per day are well formed. He has lots of thirst, but urination seems normal. Cramping of the foot at night and only occasional muscle twitching. Also a sensation of skipping heart beats in the evenings. No fever and no dizziness. Furthermore, he has some shortness of breath, tightness of chest, slight cough, slimy throat and frequent throat irritation, sleeping problems, sweats easily and has edema below the eyes. Tongue has no coat, but frothy water on the rims. My guess is a ZWT base + XX, GJ and WWZ, or a GCFZT base plus HQ. Am I on the right track?

On the other hand, a GZSYZMT could also be worth a try, as I think I recall AV telling us that MH does not need a superficial pulse if the damp is sitting at the organ level. Or go FZT, which would incorporate the deep wiry aspect plus roll-up of the ZWT plus the RS for the LHS dong I/II, and would sort of fit the symptom description. Heck, so many choices here with a deep pulse, that once again, it is hard to differentiate. Hence the insecurity…

Frequent throat irritation can simply be the phlegm/post-nasal drip, which can also be a source of chronic cough.

I just did not see Shaoyang in the pulse, Esther, so now we know why 😉
