After completing his Bachelor of Acupuncture in Australia, Mr. Staats has been in private practice since 1992. He completed post-graduate clinical studies in the teaching hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine in Nanning, China.

Following, he returned to China a further two times for continued clinical training in Beijing hospitals. He has also travelled to Nanjing, China, to further his studies in Shanghan Lun with renowned Prof. Dr. Huang Huang. Mr. Staats also has a keen interest in Japanese disciplines of Chinese medicine and has been a student of both Ikeda sensei and Edward Obaidey sensei since 1996. In the mean time, Jean-Paul Staats has been a lecturer at the Australian College of Natural Medicine (now called Endeavour College) for the last six years.

In 2011, Mr. Staats enrolled in the Canonical Chinese Medicine Training™ then offered in the city of Melbourne, Australia from which he graduated as a Diplomate in Canonical Chinese Medicine in 2013. Since said graduation, Mr. Staats has continued to train with Dr. Arnaud Versluys in the US and work towards completion of his clinical fellowship.

Since 2015, Jean-Paul Staats was appointed director of the newly inaugurated Sydney ICEAM, where he is organizing the new Canonical courses clinical trainings in Australia starting in 2016.
