Laurie graduated from the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCTA) after 3 years training in acupuncture, 1 1/2 years training in Tuina, and 2 years training in Chinese Herbal Medicine. His training included 2 years of supervised clinical experience. He has a BSc (Hons) degree in acupuncture, licentiate diplomas in acupuncture (Lic Ac), tuina (Lic Tuina) and oriental herbal medicine (Lic OHM), and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the British Tui Na Association (BTNA) and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM).

Laurie has been a dedicated follower of Dr. Arnaud Versluys with whom he has studied since 2006. He travels over Europe and to the US to continue his research and study, focusing on the classical Chinese herbal medicine of the Shanghan Lun system of the Tian lineage.
