The institute is founded and directed by Dr. Arnaud Versluys. Born and raised in Belgium, he is one of the very few Westerners to have received his full medical education in China. He trained for a total of twelve years at the Chinese medical universities of Wuhan, Beijing and Chengdu, and received Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees in Chinese medicine with specialties in rheumatology and herbal medicine. He also trained in traditional discipleship for many years under the tutelage of Dr. Zeng Rongxiu a celebrated Shanghan Lun specialist and disciple of late Shanghan Lun grandmaster Tian Heming also known as ‘Eight Flavor Tian’.

For years, Dr. Versluys worked as a professor at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, USA, engaged in both teaching and research in classical herbal medicine. During that tenure, he was deeply involved in both curriculum design and delivery. But he soon realized that institutionalized curricula lacked identity and the soul of a true lineage, elements crucial to train the future masters of Chinese medicine who can ensure the perpetuation of its effective clinical application.

Because of his background in traditional discipleship training in the classical practice of clinical medicine, and as a successor of the Tian-Zeng lineage of Shanghan Lun medicine, he decided to establish a post-graduate education platform to train acupuncturists and physicians in his classical style of clinical East Asian medicine.
